Gender-Neutral Nursery

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The Rebels. The Troublemakers. The ones who see things differently. While some may see them as the crazy ones. We see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.

STEVE JOBS

I still have over a week until I find out if the little bean is a boy or a girl, but I have been dying to start planning the nursery. The room we are using currently has light green walls, which I have been going back and forth about repainting. A simple gray or white wall could easily be dressed up with colorful frames and accent pieces.

Hearing horror stories about people finding out the gender beforehand only to discover that the prediction was wrong, I decided a gender-neutral palette might be best. Shopping around I found two key pieces, a teal fan and chevron lamp, that could make me love the green. Using lots of white furniture would brighten up the room enough for the look I am going for. Because I couldn’t resist, here are my two options for a boy and girl room:

Boy Nursery Option

1. Modern Rockstar Print Groovy Guitars Wall Art: The colors in this print are perfect and such a fun accent for a little boy.

2. White Deer Head: For my bow-hunting husband, I thought a white deer head would be playful for a little boy’s room.

3. Weave Pendant Lamp: Trying to add a masculine touch, I would accent the room with brown and bring in some natural fibers with this pendant.

4. White Hemnes Ikea Dresser: I am looking for a basic dresser that can stretch beyond a nursery, but it could also be used as a changing table with lots of storage.

5. Teal Fan: I found this teal fan from TJMaxx for $29.99, and I realized I could love the room with a teal and green color combo.

6. Babyletto Mercer 3-in-1 Crib: I am drawn to the modern cribs. This one is my favorite because of the sleek lines and extra storage.

7. Teal Chevron Lamp: After nabbing up the teal fan, I stumbled across this matching lamp at Steinmart for $39.99. It was kind of out of the price range I was looking for, but with a 40% off coupon the problem was solved.

8. Potterybarn Kids Comfort Swivel Glider & Ottoman: If there is one place I plan on splurging it will be in the glider. If I am going to spend a lot of time sitting, it better be comfortable.

9. Faux Fur Rug: I am all about textures in a room, so a white faux fur rug is must on my want list.

10. Vulli Sophie the Giraffe Teether: Giraffe toys will be perfect to have to bring in some brown tones to the room.

Girl Nursery Option

1. Princess Silhouettes: To make the room more girlie I want to bring in some pink accents, and what’s more girlie than princess silhouettes?

2. Ikea Maskros Pendant Lamp: I love the delicate flowers in this lamp!

3. Potterybarn Kids Comfort Swivel Glider & Ottoman: If there is one place I plan on splurging it will be in the glider. If I am going to spend a lot of time sitting, it better be comfortable.

4. Pink Chunky Mirror: Sticking with pink accents, a chunky mirror would be perfect above the crib or dresser.

5. Babyletto Mercer 3-in-1 Crib: I am drawn to the modern cribs. This one is my favorite because of the sleek lines and extra storage.6. Faux Fur Rug: I am all about textures in a room, so a white faux fur rug is must on my want list.

7. Teal Fan: I found this teal fan from TJMaxx for $29.99, and I realized I could love the room with a teal and green color combo.

8. Little Giraffe ‘Little G’ Plush Stuffed Animal: My mom already got the baby two Little Giraffe blankets, and they are so soft that it makes this stuffed animal tempting.

9. Teal Chevron Lamp: After nabbing up the teal fan, I stumbled across this matching lamp at Steinmart for $39.99. It was kind of out of the price range I was looking for, but with a 40% off coupon the problem was solved.

10. White Hemnes Ikea Dresser: I am looking for a basic dresser that can stretch beyond a nursery, but it could also be used as a changing table with lots of storage.

I can’t decide which room option I like more. Anxious in anticipation of finding out if I will need pink or brown accents.
