Frosting-Filled Cupcakes

After deciding to have a Gender Reveal Party for our family, the biggest decision was how we were going to tell everyone. My favorite ideas we through balloons, a color-filled cake, cake pops or frosting-filled cupcakes.

I decided against balloons because I didn’t want to pollute the environment, and releasing a bunch of balloons in the house just didn’t seem as fun. The cake would have been easy to make, but I would have needed to supply utensils and plates. Cake pops seemed easy enough, but it would involve buying another cake pan to store somewhere in my house. So I ended up choosing the cupcakes because they would be easy for all forty guests to pick and eat. Plus they would help to decorate the table.

Directions:

1. Bake cupcakes using your favorite recipe (I just used a box mix since I was making 50 cupcakes). Use a pairing knife to cut a cone-shape out of the center of each cupcake. Set cone aside.

2. Fill center with frosting. I used blue frosting to reveal that our baby was a boy, but you could put any of your favorite delicious filling in there.

3. Cut cone piece in half, and discard tip…or eat it to make sure it taste okay.

4. Replace top on cupcake and add frosting to hide.

5. Enjoy!

I was worried that there wouldn’t be enough frosting in the center for people to immediately see what we were having, but with one bite you could definitely tell the gender. This was such an easy project, and it was fun having find out at the same time.

What’s your favorite cupcake filling?
