We officially have one wall in the nursery completed! Now if I can just pumped out one wall a month over the next three months, this little man will have a place to call his own when he gets here. Hopefully, we do not run into as many hiccups as we did with this wall in the process.

After deciding on the Ikea Hemnes 8-drawer dresser, for a steal of a price of $299.00, I had to figure out a way to get it. Ikea doesn’t exactly have the easiest method when it comes to buying online. Their delivery selection is very limited, and it comes with a flat shipping rate of $249.00 to Oklahoma City. This meant that my bargain dresser would have a price tag of over $550.00. Yeah, not going to happen. Our only option left was making a trip down to Dallas.

That is when my friend Kiki intervened. She was heading down there for the weekend and insisted on picking it up for us. Kiki is the kind of friend everyone wants to have. This is not because she would go out of her way to help you out, but because you cannot help but continually laugh in her presence. She is hands down one of the funniest people I know, so when she called to tell me about her losing battle to grab the last Hemnes dresser off the shelf, I couldn’t help but just laugh it off. I was bummed, but with all of our weekends booked up, I was going to have to look into another option for the dresser.

I had given up hope and moved on to Craigslist, when I got a call from Kiki. She decided to go back to the store the next day to pick something up for her daughter, and the dresser just happened to be back in stock. Wheee! I did a happy dance right in the middle of the Jiffy Lube waiting room, I was so excited. Four short hours later, the dresser was ours, and Chris was in full assembly mode.

There were a few warnings that putting together the Ikea dresser was not a one person job.

Besides the universal language directions, it also could have been the fact that the box weighed 119 pounds. Even though, my husband managed to carry it up a flight of stairs by himself. He aborted me from the mission from the beginning. I like to think that it is because he didn’t want me to do any heavy lifting, but the truth was that he didn’t want me breathing down his neck with comments like, “are you sure that’s the way it’s supposed to go?” So instead I caught up on all my favorite Real Housewives tapings while Chris go to work.

Two hours and two dramatic reunion tapings later, Chris had one happy wife, and like Heather from The Real Housewives of New York would say, “Holla!”

The dresser was the perfect size for the space. I am so glad we opted to buy something that he can grow into instead of the miniature baby dresser options. I plan on maximizing the space, using it as a changing table too, so I still have a few items to add. I might even look into switching out the knobs with a more ornate option from Anthropology. Overall, I am just so happy to see everything coming together so well. It is just what I imagined.
