Changes for the Second Year

Start copying what you love. Copying, copying, copying. And at the end of the copy, you will find yourself.

YOHJI YAMAMOTO

For the final day of Sally Spins’ Blogiversary Week, I wanted to share with you the changes for the second year. It is no lie that the gears have shifted on Sally Spins since I found out I was pregnant. My blog started out with me as the Anti-Expert Cooking-Expert, posting recipes everyday. It has now shifted towards me becoming a mom and finding inspirations through Pinterest.

What does this mean for the second year of Sally Spins? I have decided to take my brand in a new direction. My new focus will be a lifestyle blog for housewives who want to be more creative. The goal will be to help readers gather ideas to improve their spin on life. My posts will be based on sourcing inspiration to make a better home, cook healthy meals, raise a small child/two pugs, throw the perfect party, and improve my overall lifestyle.

I believe you don’t have to be creative. You just have to be resourceful. Everyone can be a better housewife. It just takes some planning. Here are the new topics I will be writing about:

TOPICS

  • inspirations for  home, dinner, style, beauty, and family
  • easy recipes that will leave your family wanting more
  • simply DIY projects
  • creating and executing visions for your home
  • how to plan the perfect party
  • managing daily life at home

Want more? Check out the new page about my blog and the other one about just me. Oh, guess what finally arrived?

I think Etsy is calling my name to hunt for the perfect nursery bedding.

What direction would you like to see Sally Spins take?

About Sally

My name is Sally, and I am the 28-year-old writer of Sally Spins. I grew up in a small town in Kansas, thumbing through Pottery Barn and J.Crew catalogs for inspirations. As a child, I loved drawing floor plans for my dream house, adopting as many animals as possible, and spending every waking minute laughing with friends and family.

When I am not online, which is an increasingly rare occurrence, I dig redecorating my home, throwing parties, pugs, cooking for my family, football season, jogging, the color blue, red wine, photography, reading, and grilled cheese. I would like to consider myself a type A person making an effort to live as a B+. I feel my control freak tendencies can only be lessened through more organization and planning.

I married my high school sweetheart, Chris. He’s the hardworking, perfect kind of guy. We are complete opposites… His passion lies in hunting animals, while I like to rescue and cuddle them. Somehow, down the yellow brick road, we ended up in Oklahoma City with two pugs and a baby on the way.

Life is crazy, and I want to enjoy every minute of it. That is why I blog. I hope to inspire you to live a more creative life, putting your own spin on things.

About Sally Spins

Welcome! I’m glad you are here. Want to know more about me? Click here.

I discovered blogs in March of 2010, when my mom forwarded me a link to a food blog. I was instantly hooked. The beautiful pictures, documenting the process of cooking, made it look so easy. Blogging was something I could see myself getting into. Eight months later, I finally built up the courage to start Sally Spins. I used it as an outlet, more on that here. I was a creative person, stuck in a very non-creative job. Now I have the most inspiring job of all, I am a housewife.

My blog started out under the category of a food blog. I would consider myself to be the Anti-Expert Cooking-Expert. After finding out that I was pregnant, the gears began to shift. Now my focus is on trying to source inspirations to make a better home, cook healthy meals, raise a small child/two pugs, throw the perfect party, and improve my overall lifestyle.

Sally Spins is a lifestyle blog for housewives who want to be more creative. This is a place where design and motherhood intersect. If you’re on a mission to live a more purposeful life and need some inspiration, this is the blog for you.

The goal of this blog is to help you gather ideas to improve your spin on life. I will help guide you to solutions to take care of your family, home, and yourself. Everyone can be a better housewife. It just takes some planning.

Why not start a blog?

Do more than exist, live.

Do more than touch, feel.

Do more than look, observe.

Do more than read, absorb.

Do more than hear, listen.

Do more than listen, understand.

Do more than think, ponder.

Do more than talk, say something.

JOHN H. RHOADES

I woke up today, on the notorious 11/11/11, and realized that I wanted to do more with my life, so I started a blog.  Have you ever just gotten stuck in a rut?  Well I sure have and let me tell you about it.

I attended the University of Kansas from 2002 to 2006.  I LOVED college to say the least.

My college years went by way too fast and seem like a blur today.  I changed my major six times, dabbling in pre-med, graphic design, business, occupational therapy, psychology, and ending with economics.  I was involved in a sorority where I made the best of friends and had way too much fun.

Even though I went through college changing my mind consistently about what I wanted to do with my life, I did graduate.  The jury is still out on what I should do.

Life has a funny way of working out.  I have always had trouble with making decisions and sticking to them.  I was not really sure what I wanted to do after I left Lawrence, KS.  Luckily for me life decided for me.  I got a call in May 2006 from Chris, my ex-boyfriend (the one that I always compared other boys to) and we decided to rekindle our relationship.  The rest is pretty much history from there.

Luck came around again, and I discovered that one of my friend’s ex-girlfriends (who was the bomb.com) needed and extra roommate!!!  So it was off to Manhattan, KS for me to live in the same town as Chris.  Moving in with two of the most amazing girls was kind of like a continuation of college life, just in a new college town!

I would consider that year to be one of the best years of my life!  I graduated from college, moved to a new town, made new wonderful friends, adopted a puppy, got engaged and married the love of my life.  It was a whirlwind of craziness…

After that year, life kind of settled down.  Chris and I were still living in Manhattan, while he finished his master’s program.  I started working at a local bank putting my economics major to hard work.  Not!  The days started to blur together.  Before I knew it we were moving to Oklahoma City and buying a new house.

Which gets me to today.  I live each day pretty much the same.  I go to work each day, eat pretty much the same thing and am getting further and further from the things I used to enjoy.  I am starting a blog today to DO MORE with my life.  I want to start actually cooking meals instead of putting them in the microwave or eating out.  I want to craft and do design projects!  I plan on posting my spin on other people’s ideas.  More to come Monday.
