Merry Christmas!

At Christmas, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ makes me cry in exactly the same places every time, even though I know it’s coming.

Christmas

Merry Christmas, everyone! My family is spending this White Christmas by the fire, with our fingers crossed that we will have an extra special baby present any day now.  I just wanted to let all of you know that I will be taking a few weeks break from writing, kind of a mix between a Christmas vacation and a short maternity leave. If you still want to stay in touch, please continue to follow me on TwitterInstagram, and Pinterest. I hope you all have a special day, filled with lots of love and laughter.

Back before you know it,

Sally

The Riley Group Gift

Whatever you do, work at it with your whole heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward.

COLOSSIANS 3:23

First of all, let’s discuss how utterly terrifying it is that I’m going to be responsible for a mini-me in a month. How did this happen??? Well, you know what I mean. I look at all of the thoughtful gift we’ve received, at all of our baby showers, and can’t help but to do a little cartwheel (in my head of course since I’m 36 weeks pregnant) when I realize just how lucky Chris and I are. Just when I thought I couldn’t be any more spoiled, my blogger friends, from Engage OKC, have reached out to give me a day of personal assistant services from The Riley Group. For real? This means after the little guys arrives, and family members are back in Kansas, I will have a full day of people helping me cope with my new role as mom. With nesting tendencies running high, I don’t think I could have asked for a more useful gift. I’m so excited!

From running errands to in home organization, The Riley Group does it all. They even offer both personal and corporate services. At a time when I need to make the baby my number one priority, they will step in to give me an extra hand. What’s nice is that they offer such a variety of services, that I can decide what will really be most useful to me in those early days.  Whether it’s addressing all the baby announcements or organizing the overwhelming amount of baby gear, they do it all!

At our parenting class last week they reinforced, that when you take your baby home, it’s only important to be a really good mom. Keeping a tidy house can wait. This is awesome news since I’ve heard I’ll be lucky if I can get enough time to shower and run a brush through my hair. Did you know that babies requie constant monitoring? With this generous gift, from The Riley Group and Engage OKC, I have a little reassurance that things might not actually all fall apart when our newest family member arrives. I wonder if I can talk them into sticking around for when the baby is wide awake at 3:00 a.m.? Maybe my dogs will even stop feeling so neglected.

One Day

Live using what you got and then you come to life.

While searching for new blogs, I stumbled across the Hollywood Housewife. I saw that she was originally from Oklahoma, so I decided to take a closer look. I thought her post about documenting one day through Instagram was interesting, so I decided to join in…a few days late.

My daily life is going to look quite different in two months. It might be nice to be able to look back on a day where my time was my own. So why not? Follow me on Instagram today to see what I’m up to, and feel free to join in by using the hashtag #onedayHH. Here are the guidelines.

One Day at Hollywood Housewife

What are you up to today?

You don’t have a soul.

You are a soul.

You have a body.

This post is a day late, but it is definitely not a dollar short. In fact, if you join in you will be saving in the long run. What I am talking about here people is Aquatober. A whole month of drinking nothing but water…well and milk or soy milk. A monthly cleanse of eliminating all the sugar-laden beverages from your diet.

Now I do have an unfair advantage over most, since I have already eliminated alcohol and most caffeinated drinks from my system, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t having a sugary soda here and there. I am still giving up fruit juices, Starbucks delights, and all the delicious cherry limeades I have been drinking. This is all in hopes of a more hydrated, healthy place for my baby to grow and for me to function as well.

Where did I get this ingenious idea? The blog that I look forward to reading the most everyday, Young House Love, is where I found my inspiration. If you like witty writing, mixed with home design, it is the perfect blog for you. So whether you join in on my Aquatober mission or just in reading some good old fashion DIY, you should check out their blog.

Fall Bucket List

Let the refining and improving of your own life keep you so busy that you have little time to criticize others.

H. JACKSON BROWN JR.

While checking out at the dentist, I had a realization that the next time I had my teeth cleaned, I would need someone to my baby. I think sometimes I take my freedom (well my ability to do things on my time) for granted, and now that I only have four months before his scheduled arrival, I really need to make every second count. To make sure I squeeze in everything I want to get done, I have decided to make a…

1. Sip a pumpkin spice drink on a chilly day.

2. Go to a football game.

3. Decorate our porch for the Fall season.

4. Make a crockpot stew.

5. Travel to a pumpkin patch.

6. Take the Heritage Hills Home Tour in Oklahoma City.

7. Enjoy a Starbucks’ Pumpkin Treat with a friend.

8.  Simmer homemade apple cider on the stove.

9. Finish decorating the baby’s room.

10. Throw a Fall-themed party.

I thought about adding “find the perfect dog costume” to the list, but Nellie and Doug seem to really like their previous costumes.

As much as I love carving pumpkins and roasting their seeds, painted pumpkins can make their debut much longer. I am itching to try a painted chevron pumpkin.

What is on your Fall Bucket List?
