Easy Nailhead Pumpkin

Sometimes the most ordinary things could be made extraordinary, simply by doing them with the right people.

NICHOLAS SPARKS

I am knocking out things left and right from my Fall Bucket List. We are still enjoying the 16 Bean Crock Pot Stew Soup I made on Monday, and since I chose to paint my pumpkins this year, they still look as lovely as ever on our front porch. We have four beauts keeping it real out there.

I have been meaning to share with you the easiest way to decorate a pumpkin. The painted ones took a little more effort to put together, but the nailheads pumpkins were a cinch. I picked up two packages from Hobby Lobby for $1.99 a piece (they’re located in the upholstery section). The ones I chose had a nice ornate design.

Then all I had to do was simply push the nailheads into the pumpkin. That’s it!

For the design, I used nail heads to accent the groves in the pumpkin for one. For the other, I went with a simple monogram letter.

They maybe took a whole five minutes to put together. Now that is my kind of pumpkin. They look so good on our porch they might even be upstaging the Fabulous Fall Wreath I made last year.

It’s hard to compete with simplicity and chevron. If you still haven’t tackled your pumpkins this year, it’s not too late to throw together some of these easy options.

What’s your porch show stopper?

Fall Pretzel Buttons

In order to lead a fascinating life – one brimming with art, music, intrigue and romance – you must surround yourself with precisely those things.

UNKNOWN

After this weekend, the Fall Bucket List is well underway. My friends and I gathered at my house on Saturday to watch some Kansas football, decorate pumpkins, and enjoy all things fabulously fall. Even though I was dying to get started on my pumpkin painting, I could not resist making one of my favorite treats first, pretzel buttons.

Adding pretzels to a dessert makes it wildly delicious. There is something about the crunch and salt from the pretzel that takes the sweet dessert over the edge. I used seasonal candies to add an autumn twist, and I found so many options that I made two versions. The first consisted of Snap Pretzels, Candy Corn M&Ms, and Hershey Hugs.

For the next batch, I used the same pretzels, Hershey Pumpkin Spice Kisses, and Fall-Colored M&Ms.

What I love most about pretzel buttons is how easy they are to make. After placing pretzels topped with hugs/kisses on a foil-lined baking sheet, they just need to go into a 200-degree oven for three minutes. Then just simply push the M&Ms on top and cool in the fridge. That’s it! For a more detailed description, check out my recipe for Raspberry Pretzel Buttons.

The hugs give the buttons a witchy feel with their striped design, but the best part is the Candy Corn M&Ms. This is the first time I have tried this addicting flavor, which is a good thing or I might be 300 pounds by now.

For those of you, like me, who can’t get enough pumpkin, the Hershey’s Pumpkin Spice Kisses are just what you need in your pretzel button. The perfect seasonal spice and salty crunch is a real treat.

My friend, Mel, brought her favorite seasonal staple, a mix of candy corn, pumpkins, and peanuts. Raise your hands if you like salty, sweet combinations.

Before dabbling in the desserts, we did enjoy a proper meal of Three Bean Chili and corn bread. The whole town had been buzzing about what warm dish they were going to serve when temperatures dropped on Saturday, and I admit the hearty chili was a good idea because it was freezing!

With our full bellies and some satisfied K-State fans, we got to work painting our pumpkins. I went with a chevron theme, which I found from My Sweet Savannah.

I love how they turned out, and I can’t wait to finish decorating my porch and cross it off my bucket list. One thing I can now eliminate off the list is the Heritage Hills Home Tour, which I attended on Sunday. It was amazing to see how homes, in Oklahoma, were constructed in the early 1900s and how people have updated them over the years.

If you want to see amazing Fall Porches, this is the place to go. Their landscaping and decorations were impeccable. From football to pumpkins, there is no doubt why this is my favorite time of the year.

How are you decorating for the season?

While checking out at the dentist, I had a realization that the next time I had my teeth cleaned, I would need someone to my baby. I think sometimes I take my freedom (well my ability to do things on my time) for granted, and now that I only have four months before his scheduled arrival, I really need to make every second count. To make sure I squeeze in everything I want to get done, I have decided to make a…

1. Sip a pumpkin spice drink on a chilly day.

2. Go to a football game.

3. Decorate our porch for the Fall season.

4. Make a crockpot stew.

5. Travel to a pumpkin patch.

6. Take the Heritage Hills Home Tour in Oklahoma City.

7. Enjoy a Starbucks’ Pumpkin Treat with a friend.

8.  Simmer homemade apple cider on the stove.

9. Finish decorating the baby’s room.

10. Throw a Fall-themed party.

I thought about adding “find the perfect dog costume” to the list, but Nellie and Doug seem to really like their previous costumes.

As much as I love carving pumpkins and roasting their seeds, painted pumpkins can make their debut much longer. I am itching to try a painted chevron pumpkin.
