Christmas Cookie Plate

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse.

Who’s going with a cookie plate this year for your homemade gift option? At 37 weeks pregnant, I thought that was by far the best option. When it comes to cleaning the house, I’m not really feeling it, but I sure get a burst of energy to stand in the kitchen and bake all day! Needless to say, my back’s paying the price now.

At least deciding on which cookies to make was an easy decision. I turned to my good friend Pinterest and some easy recipes I have made in the past. I like a good variety on my cookie plate, so I needed a mix of over-the-top and easy recipes.

Oreo Balls: My sister-in-law, Jenny, made these last year at Christmas, and they were so good, I had to include them in my holiday plate. To dress them up a bit, I added a chocolate drizzle on top. I just melted some semi-sweet chocolate, poured it into a ziplock bag, cut off a small corner, and drizzled on top. Bam!

Double-Delight Peanut Butter Cookies: My hands down favorite peanut butter cookie recipe comes from Pillsbury. Peanut Butter Cookies, filled with creamy, sweet peanut butter, covered in cinnamon sugar, can’t get any better.

Turtle Pretzels: By far the easiest thing I made, was the Turtle Pretzels. If you don’t count unrolling all of the Rolos, these babies can be made in five minutes or less.

Lemon Crinkle Cookies: Sugar Cookies are a staple for a Christmas cookie plate, but instead of taking the traditional route, I went with a lemony version. I used this recipe at our Gender Reveal Party, and they were such a hit, I knew they would fit perfectly into the mix.

Caramel Brownie Crinkle Cookies: For my last addition to the plate, I browsed through this list of of 20 Christmas Cookie Exchange Recipes from Six Sisters’ Stuff and decided to try out the Caramel Brownie Crinkle Cookies. The simple ingredient list and oozing caramel, had me sold.

With a variety of five cookies baked, I was ready to get these guys plated. I went to the Dollar Tree to find some fun tins to stash them in. I also got some cute plates to use too. I was impressed by the huge selection they had to choose from. Go Dollar Tree!

Once they were all nestled in, I sent the hubby out to make our deliveries.

Glad I got that checked off my to-do list in case this baby arrives tomorrow.

MARK TWAIN

From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I knew I was on an exciting journey. There are so many things to look forward to, from the first ultrasound to feeling the baby move, but finding out the gender tops my list. For 20 weeks I thought about how I wanted to find out (in a cupcake, through balloons, at a special dinner). On the other hand, my husband was very adamant that we find out together at our appointment, so to compromise I decided to have a party on our anniversary to tell our family.

Sticking with the color scheme for our wedding (which might have been a tad bit girly), invitations went out.

Since it happened to be on our 5th anniversary, I set out wedding albums and memorabilia for guest to look through. Then I hung some of our baby pictures from balloons to keep people guessing what our little one might look like.

Even though the party was on our anniversary, everyone could tell from the minute they walked in the door that it was all about the baby.

With guest arriving in their color of choice, it was obvious what their vote was, but we decided to also have a chalkboard to visually see what people were guessing.

The decorations were kept simple. I bought a few things from TJMaxx and Hobby Lobby, but most of them I made myself, including this banner.

Our parents organized a barbeque for dinner, and I handled the desserts.

I had simple treats like “he” and “she” Hershey bars.

Lemon Crinkle Cookies, which I made from this recipe, placed in color themed cupcake liners filled the table.

For the big announcement, I baked cupcakes and filled the center gender colored frosting.

But before letting everyone in our secret, we took some group photos:

Once everyone had a cupcake in hand, it was finally time to bite in and see.

IT’S A BOY!!!

It was such a fun, memorable night. The decorations might have been a little deceiving, but they were our wedding colors and I do love a good prank. We are absolutely thrilled to be having a little boy! It couldn’t have been more perfect. Hopefully, the next 20 weeks will fly by.

It’s so nice to see friends on the weekend! On Saturday, my friend Mel invited me to attend a charity event benefitting children in need. It warmed my heart to see so many people helping to make a difference in these their lives. I’m so grateful for friends who inspire me to be a better person. I also found a lot of inspiration in this week’s edition of Sally’s Pins:

White Frame Wall: Black frames used to always be my go-to choice, but I am starting to really love the look of white frames. It is an easy way to brighten up a space.

Lemon Crinkle Cookie: These cookies won a top award, which translates to they are probably as addicting as crack. I’m hoping one batch will last me through the week.

DIY Scratch Off Valentine Cards: Scratch tickets that don’t break the bank sound perfect to me. How cute is this idea!

5 Tips for a Better Self Portrait: I am the worst at taking self portraits. I really need a new one for profile picture, so I will be looking to this guide for help.

Polka Dot Sweater: I might have a slight obsession with polka dots. Not sure if pregnant women should cover their body in spots, but I really want to!

Grey Office: I first fell in love with a kitchen with grey cabinets, and now I’m obsessed with this office. I must figure out a grey color scheme in my house or else my newly remodeled kitchen is in trouble.

Tomato, Basil and Cheddar Soup: I may or may not have eaten at Jason’s Deli twice this week and ordered the Tomato Basil Soup. The addition of cheddar to this version might send it to the top of my favorite’s list.

Make-Up Dupes: I have always been a lip gloss kind of girl, but I feel the need to make the transition to lipstick. I love that I can test out this new look with cheaper versions of the department store brands.

Elegant Bedroom: The mirrors, the chandelier, and the paint color have me drooling over this room right now. I love how the light reflects in the mirrors to make the room seem bigger.

Top 5 Freezer Meals: This is my next Sunday project. How nice will it be to heat something homemade up the next time I don’t feel like cooking.

Hidden Coffee Station: I try to minimize the amount of appliances I leave on my kitchen counter, but the coffee machine does have a spot. I would die to have a nice little setup like this though.

Lazy 4-Layer Deep Dish Pizza Dip and Flatbread: Can you imagine how good this would be with a warm, fluffy pita? It is like the ultimate breadstick sauce!

Newborn Photo Shoot Ideas: This idea is so helpful with 27 different options for the perfect portrait. Since babies are so sleepy in the first few weeks, you could easily try out most of these shots.

Stripes Paired with Solids: Two of my favorite things put together, striped shirts and brightly colored shorts. This photo kind of makes me sad to see the summer coming to an end.

Pastel Neon Peach Nail Polish: I just love, love, love this nail polish color! It really pops as a manicure.

What is your favorite nail polish color?
