Going Green

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

VINCENT VAN GOGH

There is little time to recover from yesterday’s celebrations, since the holiday fell on a Wednesday. I don’t know about you guys, but I am still so full of everything patriotic that I can’t even think about cooking today.

Instead I wanted to share with you my mood board for my living room surface makeover. From floor to ceiling, our current neutral palette is blinding.

The only color to brighten things up comes from the cherry colored woodwork.

I have tried to liven things up with a pop of green in some Pottery Barn pillows, but as you can tell they are usually camouflaged by the dogs.

Though, the addition of the pillows made me realize that I do want to work around a green color scheme. For instance, I like this color option that uses hints of coral along with the green and tan.

If I take this route, I will add pops of coral throughout the room, starting with some painted furniture. My black coffee table could easily take on the new shade. Then to add some pattern, I would hunt for the perfect geometric rug.

Green Living Room

Pulling some of the blue out of the pillows, this lime inspiration would be more of a vibrant option.

Having the bold greens and blues lead the room, I could search for the pieces that would stand out with their bright colors and upholstered patterns. In this mood board, I like all of the fabric choice and could use them in either the chairs or the ottoman.

Geometric Living Room

I am excited to start my search for the perfect pieces in my green transformation. With my color options in mind, I will be looking for a geometric patterned rug , chair, or ottoman to base the room around.

What is your process for redesigning a room?

Sally’s Pins

Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.

DR. SEUSS

It has been a pretty low-key weekend at my house. On Demand and Red Box definitely saw some action the last two days. Wanderlust topped the list of the best movies, while The Grey just freaked me out! I wish I would have been able to get more done this weekend to prepare for the crazy week ahead, but at least I found some amazing finds on Pinterest. Here’s this week’s edition of Sally’s Pins:

Blue Painted Bamboo Chest: Step-by-Step Tutorial of how to spray paint furniture. I love both the color choice and the chest used in this project.

20 Best Recipes for Homemade Ice Cream: After breaking out my KitchenAid Ice Cream attachment this week, I am dying to try some new flavors! Looks like I have a lot of choices.

Floating Vases: I think floating vases are so sweet. Having a bunch of small vases makes such a big impact, even if they only contain a flower or two.

Braided Bun: This is one of the easier hairstyles I have seen on Pinterest, and it has such a polished look to it. I must try this!

Deep Dark Chocolate Cookies: Just looking at that chocolate ooze out of the cookie sends me over the edge. I bet these are so rich and delicious.

Free Printables: Add your text to the template and print cards, frames, and more. For those of you without Adobe Illustrator this is the perfect tool for inexpensive art.

DIY Rope Bowls: Mixing different textures in a room can have a huge impact. I love the use of rope for the bowls.

Potato and Pea Samosas: I don’t know what looks better, the samosas or the heavenly dipping sauce. Those are almost too cute to eat.

20 Habits That’ll Get You Fit for Summer: I love any type of diet tip and trick. It’s always nice to have a few things to focus on, in hopes that they become habits over the long run.

Sew Many Ways Blog: Another pinner says, “This woman’s blog is outstanding! If you need organization, pin now, look later.” I need organization. Pinned.

Essie’s Topless and Barefoot Polish: I love simple nails that can mix and match with any outfit. This is the perfect neutral color.

Organizing Photographs: A guide to making photo books and organizing pictures on your computer. This needs to move to the top of my to-do list.

Casual Table Setting: I love the simple centerpiece. It looks so easy to make with long branches and a few flowers tucked into the top.

Four Generations Photo: Holding photos gives an amazing perspective and dimension to the shot. I have seen so many versions for anniversaries, but I love the idea for generations.

100 Recipes Every Woman Should Know: With my new found love of cooking, I need to tackle all the recipes I “should” know.

What are your top five recipes?
