Matthew Kenney OKC

Don’t look down on anyone unless you are helping them up.

UNKNOWN

Around the holidays, we always have donation boxes at our bank. I am always surprised at what people bring in. It fills my heart to see someone come in with a Santa size bag of goodies for the children in need. At the same time, I was shocked when I saw this in our book drive box.

If you look closely you will notice something that I don’t think is quite children friendly.

Yeah…I don’t even know where to go with this. It is just too wrong. Being the kind person that I am, I took the book home. JUST KIDDING! It was already nabbed up by one of my co-workers. All in a good days work I guess.

After last night’s disaster, I thought it would be safer to eat out tonight, so I thought I would share with you one of my favorite spots in Oklahoma City. Matthew Kenney is a new restaurant in Classen Curve that was formed around the concepts of sustainability and raw foods. It was also voted one of America’s Best New Restaurants by Forbes Magazine.

Okay, I know that raw foods is a strange concept for many Midwesterners like myself, but the food is slightly cooked. It is just not cooked in temperatures higher than 118 degrees. Plus they take the raw food concept and marry it to a gourmet serving style, which is drool worthy. Here are some of the plates my friends and I ordered to show you just how yummy it really is.

Green Curry Noodles

The green curry noodles are the go to option at Matthew Kenney. They are made of thai coconut, kelp noodles, peachcrest vegetables, basil, Chile and almonds. Out of everything I have ordered there, it has the largest serving portion. So if you are used to the gigantic portions of most American restaurants, you will feel satisfied with this serving. Most of the meals there are about this size…

Avocado Ranch Portabella Slider

It is on the smaller size, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in flavor. The slider has an almond flour base topped with a portabella patty, avocado and a cashew cheddar. Everything served at Matthew Kenney is vegan and most items are gluten-free. Score!

I tried something new this time and ordered the tamales.

Tamales

They were so delicious and definitely not something I get to eat everyday. On the inside, they were filled with a mixture of corn, mushrooms and nuts. The truffle cream sauce was to die for.

Tortillas

Mel ordered the tortillas, which looked so tasty that I think I will have to try them next time. They were filled with a savory slaw mixtures and guacamole.

The Classic Summer Tomato Lasagna

My friend Taylor’s favorite dish is the lasagna. I really love the concept of using veggies in place of the traditional noodle.

Sweet Corn Ravioli

The ravioli just melts in your mouth. Everything you order here is so fresh and bursting with flavors. I just can’t get enough. You’ve got to love a place where you can go in and order an appetizer, main dish, and dessert and still go to the gym afterwards.

I’m not planning on hitting up the gym tonight. I’m trading in my running shoes to go have a beer with the girls instead. Got to kick off the weekend festivities!

Have you ever tried the raw foods experience?
